1-inch thick pine planking was installed as roofing. Use of this material versus plywood will make any necessary repairs or replacement work much easier in the future. |

A ridge vent was installed at the top of the roof. This provides excellent ventilation through a 2-inch slot cut from the entire length of the roof. The vent is shown here, installed after all the shingles were put onto the roof. |

Another advantage of a ridge vent is that the hip shingles are nailed directly onto the vent for the sake of appearance. The ridge vent is shown at the right after all the hip shingles were installed. |
