Installing the New Garage Door Opener, Part 1

An old Genie brand chain-drive garage door opener came with the house.  On August 12, 1999, this was replaced by a Craftsman ½ H.P. screw-drive opener.  The Genie opener can be seen below at the left, while at the right is the new Craftsman opener being removed from the box.

Many of the Genie's accessories were also replaced, such as this remote opener.  Only 1 remote still existed for the Genie, and while it had an impressive range of 20 feet, sadly it would not work with the Craftsman opener.

It was therefore replaced by these remotes, having only a quarter of the size and twice the range.

The original wall switch consisted solely of a doorbell-type button, conveniently mounted on the door frame, 6 feet off the ground, as seen at the left.

It was replaced by a new switch, seen below at the left.  The large button with the light controls the door, while the large round button controls the built-in light.  The small round button locks the garage door opener.

In addition, a remote keypad was installed for the opener on the outside wall of the garage, as seen below at the right.
