Installing the New Garage Door Opener, Part 1
An old Genie brand chain-drive garage door opener came with the house. On August 12, 1999, this was replaced by a Craftsman ½ H.P. screw-drive opener. The Genie opener can be seen below at the left, while at the right is the new Craftsman opener being removed from the box. |

Many of the Genie's accessories were also replaced, such as this remote opener. Only 1 remote still existed for the Genie, and while it had an impressive range of 20 feet, sadly it would not work with the Craftsman opener. |
|
It was therefore replaced by these remotes, having only a quarter of the size and twice the range. |

The
original wall switch consisted solely of a doorbell-type button,
conveniently mounted on the door frame, 6 feet off the ground, as seen
at the left.
It was replaced by a new switch, seen below at the left. The large button with the light controls the door, while the large round button controls the built-in light. The small round button locks the garage door opener. In addition, a remote keypad was installed for the opener on the outside wall of the garage, as seen below at the right. |
